Myles Williamson is a junior and theater student at LACHSA, the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Students audition to get into this performing arts high school located on the campus of California State University Los Angeles. Myles says LACHSA students are especially social and thrive on the interaction with other creative people. That’s why he was thrilled to return to school in person after nearly two years of learning at home during the pandemic. He describes looking at a Zoom screen during remote learning as "draining the life out of you." Myles thinks COVID-19 is terrifying. His mother tested positive on Christmas morning and had to isolate. To stay safe, his family opened presents on a FaceTime video call. Even though he's vaccinated, he still tests weekly for himself and others around him. As a 17-year-old LACHSA theater student, Myles explains why representation is important in the performing arts. He saw Corbin Bleu in "High School Musical," a black male actor who turned out to be a LACHSA graduate. Bleu's success inspired Myles to audition and eventually be accepted in the performing arts high school.
